Businesses Operating in Milton
The City is proud to have the following licensed businesses located in Milton.
Any individual, corporation, partnership or sole proprietor who wishes to conduct business within the City of Milton must first obtain a nontransferable business license. All businesses must first register with the Department of Licensing Master Licensing program and be able to supply a UBI (Unified Business Identifier). In addition to obtaining a business license, you must also comply with all City, County, and State regulations for zoning, building, health and safety.
Each branch or location of a business must obtain a license as if each branch or location were a separate business; and when two or more businesses are conducted in the same location, each business must be licensed.

Application in and of itself does not guarantee issuance of a license, and business may not be conducted while the application is in the approval or appeal process.
Failure to receive a notice of renewal shall not excuse the business from applying for and securing the license, and paying of all license fees due.
For businesses operating out of a residence who have customers coming to their business, a Home Occupation Permit is also required (MMC 17.08.380) in addition to the Business License. To apply for a Home Occupation Permit, please review the Home Occupation Regulations and complete this APPLICATION Return the completed application to the City of Milton Public Works Office along with the $300.00 Home Occupation Permit Fee. Do not return it with your Business License Application.
If your business operates out of a residence, but you do not have customers coming to your business, a permit is not required. Even though a permit is not required, the business is still required to conform to the requirements for a Home Occupation. To document the understanding of the requirement for regulatory compliance absent a permit, please complete the Exemption Form and return to the City of Milton Public Works Office.
Small Business Assistance Program: The City of Milton has created a Small Business Assistance Program to provide financial assistance to qualifying local small businesses that have been negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of the program is to help these businesses mitigate the economic impacts of COVID-19, lessen disruptions to workers, and maintain availability of local goods and services. The City is allocating $100,000 from the City’s portion of CARES Act funding to implement the Small Business Assistance Program available to eligible local small businesses.
