Tips for small business owners
  • Before applying for a permit, speak with the property owner or manager regarding any tenant improvements, as the owner will be required to sign all permit applications.
  • Find the right professional to assist in the process.  Consider hiring an architect, planner or engineer to assist in the permitting process.
  • Submit quality plans stamped by professionals.  Most projects will require plans stamped by a professional architect or engineer.
  • Undertake research regarding the zoning code and design standards, the City’s website has information listed as well as the Milton Municipal Code.
  • Compile a list of questions.  Most projects are interrelated between planning and building.  To better assist applicants, it is helpful to be able to discuss the full scope of the project.
  • Contact the city early in your project.  Office hours are Monday through Friday 8AM-3:30PM
