As part of the 5th Avenue Road Widening Project, a roundabout will be installed at the intersection of 5th Ave and Porter Way, adding curb gutter and sidewalk on 5th Ave, and replacement of the Hylebos Creek Culvert. This summer the current Hylebos Creek culvert on 5th Avenue will be replaced with a new bottomless culvert that will reduce/eliminate the flooding that occurs in this area and provide new fish passage. This will require an extended road closure due to extensive underground utility re-routing and deep foundation support.
